Harness Development

# 2026 was the year of the agent. 2027 will be the year of the harness.

Everyone met the model. Everyone watched an agent take the stage. What turns a clever model into a colleague you can hand work to is the harness: the memory, tools, guardrails and judgment around it.

## What a harness is

Not a single prompt. Not a single tool call. Not a single agent. A harness is the layer between a raw model and the work it’s meant to do: the memory it needs to stay consistent, the tools it’s allowed to use, the checks that catch it when it’s wrong, and the personality that makes it something your team, and your customers, actually want to talk to. Build it once, well, and it keeps running long after the novelty of “we tried ChatGPT” has worn off.

## Why it’s different from a pilot

A pilot proves a model can do something once, in a demo. A harness is built to run every day, under real conditions, with real stakes. It has to handle the edge cases nobody mentioned in the kickoff meeting. That’s the difference between software you show off and software you can actually staff work to.

## The anatomy of a harness

The model sits in the middle. Everything that makes it dependable sits around it.

“A set of straps and fittings by which a working animal is attached to a load, so that its power can be applied to moving it.”

The dictionary definition of “harness.” The word is older still: Old Norse *hernest*, a soldier’s kit, the equipment that made a man useful in the field. By the 1690s it had turned into a verb: to control something for use as power. Rob Williams, “The Harness,” ICE Annual Retreat 2026.

## Then you stop running one, and start running many

Underneath, everything is shared. Every harness we build draws on the same memory, the same tools, and the same governance, so adding a third or a thirtieth doesn’t mean building from scratch again.

## What we build harnesses for

- Internal operations: a harness that runs a repeatable piece of your business end to end, including the final document a human used to finish by hand.

- Customer-facing agents: personable, on-brand, able to represent your organization in an actual conversation.

- Content and delivery pipelines: one input, routed and reshaped for every channel it needs to reach, reviewed before it goes out, never dropped on the floor.

- Your own IP: a harness built on methods and techniques we bring from every engagement, shaped to your systems, that your team can run without us once it’s handed over.

## Built alongside your team

We build it with your people in the room. When we leave, the harness, and the know-how to extend it, stays with you.
